The LaForges had a dream...to build a hospitality center...a home away from home...clean, comfortable and
available at reasonable rates. Antoine was, from the outset, architect, contractor, manager, while his wife
Hectorine was decorator, accountant, cashier, hostess...together, they launched their business.
1966 -construction of a small service station and 72 seat restaurant,
built along the newly opened section of the Trans-Canada Highway.
1969 -addition of 8 double cottages, built accross a man-made lake (hence Près du Lac,
french for 'near the lake') and the shortest covered brdge in the world (16ft),
built over the brook which flows into the lake.
1972-1986 -units were gradually added to reach 100 in total; the dining room and kitchen
were also considerably expanded. The existing complex has 97 rooms (including 17 cottages, honeymoon and
anniversary rooms), banquet rooms, lounge, boutique, indoor pool, sauna, whirlpool,
exercise room, basketball court, putting green, and children's playground.
Mrs Hectorine is still very interested in the Inn's operation, and she regularly greets her guests
in the dining room and at the reception. Mr Antoine passed away in 2007.
Today, the LaForge's daughter, Marie-Paule and their son Jean (John) now manage Près du Lac;
and the third generation, Marie-Paule's daughter Josée, will continue the tradition.
Dominick, another granddaughter, works at the hotel as well. Jean's wife Lise is responsible
for accounting. All are committed to maintaning, and improving on,
with the cooperation of their loyal staff, the highest quality of hotel and restaurant
services and ensure that their level of hospitality is up to their guests' every need.
